Firm size and economic concentration: An analysis from a lognormal expansion

چکیده

This paper studies the distribution of firm size for Colombian economy showing evidence against Gibrat’s law, which assumes a stable lognormal distribution. On contrary, we propose expansion that captures deviations from with additional terms allow better fit at upper tail, is overestimated according to As consequence, concentration indexes should be addressed consistently expansion. Through dynamic panel data approach, also show growth persistent and highly dependent on characteristics, including size, age, leverage −these results neglect law case.

Price Leadership and Firm Size Asymmetry: An Experimental Analysis∗

We use laboratory experiments to examine the effect of firm size asymmetry on price leadership in a capacity constrained duopoly. The unique subgame perfect equilibrium of our duopoly game predicts that the large firm is the price leader. In the experiment, although price leadership by the large firm is frequently observed, behavior deviates significantly from the model’s prediction. Both small...

Analysis of Hybrid Censored Data from the Lognormal Distribution

The mixture of Type I and Type II censoring schemes, called the hybrid censoring. This article presents the statistical inferences on lognormal parameters when the data are hybrid censored. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and the approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLEs) of the unknown parameters. Asymptotic distributions of the maximum likelihood estimators are used ...

Manufacturing Firm Size Distribution in Iran Evidence from Food & Beverages and Non-Metallic Mineral Products

Empirical studies have shown that the size distribution of firms can be described as a lognormal or Pareto distribution. However, these studies have focused on developed countries and little attention has been devoted to developing countries. Using the variable of number of employees as a measure of firm size, this paper investigates the shape of firm size distribution in the food & beverages i...
